Other Basic Information

Difficulty Level of Everest Base Camp Trek Deluxe

The Everest Base Camp Trek presents the physical, mental, gear, and equipment challenges that require energy. Besides the fact that you need to trek for 5 to 6 hours a day along a wild and remote trail, you must be physically fit and mentally tough. Yes, the expedition is physically and psychologically demanding, but it is quite safe for a beginner with a guide. One of the important things is to be ready for all the trekking issues and follow the guide for a joyful and safe trek.

Altitude Sickness | How To Avoid It?

Altitude illness is still a thing to watch out for a while on the EBC trek since the body has a more challenging time accessing lower oxygen supplies at higher elevations. Adaptability is a basic factor in avoiding altitude sickness. It is accomplished by getting to know your body and adjusting to the scare of limited oxygen by spending more time in the lower elevation and going up gradually, especially after the altitude goes beyond 3,000 meters. It should be noted that this referring rest, and over 1,000 feet within 15,000 feet, is also implied. The principal thing that one should do to avoid altitude sickness is to drink enough water. Everyday water drink helps to battle dehydration. Please do not consume caffeine or alcohol as they might upset the body's adaptation to altitude. Diamox has established itself as a safe and successful option of treatment for altitude sickness sufferers. However, this type of drug should only be doctor-prescribed.

Best Times to do Everest Base Camp Deluxe Trek

The question of "When should we start the Everest Base Camp Trek?" would differ from one person to another since it does depend on an individual's choices and, thus, might be chosen differently by different people. Spring and autumn are arguably the best seasons of the year for this trip because the weather and scenery are pleasant. Here's why:

During the (March to May) months of the spring season, the rainy and snowy season is at its height. Temperatures range between 15°C - 14°C, so the weather is perfect for trekking. The sky is clear, and the view of the mighty Himalayas, old towns lost between green forests, winding rivers, and fresh air become even better. Leaves of the tree and flowers of bright color add the joyful attribute of the hike that makes it more attractive by introducing the colors.

Similarly, Autumn (September to November) is a season with temperatures varying between 12°C and 16°C, which is also the same as in Spring. The weather is perfect, and there are no clouds in the sky or a breeze. It is a fine day for hiking, and visitors will have an opportunity to look at the mountain region and see the beauty of the Everest area.

Off-Season Considerations for Everest Base Camp Deluxe Trek

Travelers can choose the monsoon and winter seasons, but there is still a higher risk and adventure probability. A long and snowy winter in the Himalayas is very dangerous. Sometimes, it is below zero in winter, and the road is blocked with snow. The rainy season brings heavy downpours, which make the roads slippery. It also encompasses much risk, such as landslides and flooding. This is the most difficult and one of the most dangerous stages to get over.

On the contrary, although harsh, it could give you the solitude of an excursion where other travel companions are few or none. Therefore, as a traveler, it's your choice to decide to take the Everest Base Camp Trek.

Lukla Flight Information on Everest Base Camp Deluxe Trek

All the Everest region trek begins with Lukla flights. Buddha Air, Yeti Airlines, Simrik Airlines, etc., Are some of the flights that operate Lukla flights to and from Kathmandu before starting any treks like Everest base Camp Treks, etc. Nevertheless, Lukla flights are generally weather-dependent and related to the seasons. Hence, you should be very adaptable to plan changes in case of any unforeseen delay. Lukla Flight tickets both ways are included in the package with us.

On the other hand, parallel to it is a path from Ramechhap to Lukla. The flight to the Everest region is the second option. The one-way tickets from Ramechhap to Lukla will be only $188 per person. This is the possibility that trekkers starting at different points can get to and from places of interest, such as Everest Base Camp, the 3 passes, Island Peak, Mt. Ama Dablam, and others located in the Everest region. This enables them to manage their expenses better and enhances their overall joyfulness.

Everest Base Camp Major Attractions

Everest Base Camp

Since the 1920s, Everest Base Camp Trek has been considered a synonym for the challenge. From the first Sherpa Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary's ascent through the initially unsuccessful attempt by George Mallory and Andrew Irvine in 1922, the Everest region has continued to hype foreign trekkers.

Everest boasts two base camps: North and South. The North Base Camp, located on the Tibetan Side, is 5,150 meters above sea level, whereas the South Base Camp is in Solukhumbu, Nepal, and is 5,364 meters above sea level.

Although George Mallory's team climbed bravely and died, Everest was only climbed successfully in 1953. With this ascent of Mount Everest, Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa brought the Everest Base Camp's fame to light.

Nowadays, Everest Base Camp is a busy spot for visitors who go there for commercial trekking. It is an adventurous experience for even physically and mentally challenging paths to make a trekking pilgrimage to that renowned spot.

Sherpa Culture

Sherpa culture has been so important in the story of the Everest Expedition since its outset. Sherpas are native people from northern Nepal; they are not limited to the Khumbu region; however, their presence is seen in most parts of the country's Himalayas. Being naturally and culturally expert, the Sherpas are globally renowned for their mountaineering skills and their hospitable nature to guests and visitors. The Everest Base Camp Trek is a journey leading to an opportunity for close interaction with Sherpa's life and culture, yielding knowledge of the details of their way of life and way of being.

Tengboche Monastery

On the hill overlooking the Dudh Koshi River, Tengboche Monastery distinguishes itself as an important Buddhist establishment. It is a popular site for worship and a symbol of the quintessence of Tibetan Buddhism. It is also the second largest stupa in the country. Tengboche Monastery was constructed by Lama Gulu in 1916. It was torn down by catastrophes and rebuilt again. In spite of the adversity, it has survived 100 years and still stands today.

Sagarmatha National Park

Sagarmatha National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and another major attraction during the Everest Base Camp Deluxe. Within its 1,148 square kilometers, various wildlife, from the endangered snow leopard to the magnificent Himalayan Tahr, take shelter there.

Namche Bazaar

The Namche Bazaar is in the Solukhumbu district of Nepal at an elevation of 3440 meters and is also known as the 'Gateway to Everest.' Despite being a relatively small town with many amenities ranging from western comforts to authentic Nepali dishes, it remains a perfect place for any adventurer or visitor. As Namche is the largest village on the way up to Everest base camp, it becomes the main point for the hikers who want to go there. Its cultural side unites traditional features of Western and Tibetan cultures in a variety of antique stores, eateries, saloons, and bars. Furthermore, the glamorous Hotel Everest View attracts visitors who can now remotely boast about being the world's highest visitor to a hotel. And at times views of Mt. Everest, Cho Oyu, Ama Dablam, and Lhotse are so overwhelming that not even words can express the moment.

Kala Patthar

Kala Patthar is the highest webcam on the southern ridge of Mt. Pumori and is at the world's top. Only a two-hour walk from Gorak Shep, the settlement is inhabited by the Sherpa people.

Kala Patthar, standing at a height of 5644 meters, offers its visitors an unbeatable point of view. It is also an unmissable destination after the end of the EBC trek, delivering awesome scenic views.

Most adventurers set their sights on reaching Kala Patthar before dawn to experience the stunning sunrise spectacle. This point of view allows for an appreciation of the 360-degree show, which includes Mt. Everest, Ama Dablam, Cho Oyu, Pumori, Makalu, Nuptse, and Lhotse. Moreover, the Khumbu Glacier, one of the largest non-polar glaciers, unveils itself beneath.

While the hike takes over two hours, the change in altitude remains a challenge. Adequate acclimatization is what matters most before the voyage.

Accommodations on Everest Base Camp Deluxe Trek

Tea houses are the primary accommodation type when you start the Lukla to regular Everest Base Camp trip. A stay in these places is usually characterized by sharing a dorm and a bathroom with other lodgers, but most offer internet access and hot showers.

However, the deluxe EBC trek differs from the other treks in that it includes accommodation at the top lodges in the Everest region.

The lodges may well represent traditional wood or an exclusive modern minimalist design, which you would consider luxurious. The rooms will accommodate even two people and have a door to the bathroom and comfortable beds. Also, adaptation to your preferences is manageable, as you can choose the type of bed (single or double) and the room size. The Everest Base Camp Deluxe Trek offers these almost modern facilities with a washing area, blow dryer, energy charge outlet, and Wi-Fi. You will be going to the three-star hotel by the night straight away after arrival at Kathmandu.

The area of the modern Namche Bazaar is dominated by hotels and guest houses that offer rooming, private bathrooms, electricity, and internet access.

Camping is possible, though safety issues make it only sometimes preferable. Those who choose camping must be equipped for DIY cooking with gear, gas canisters, sleeping pads, and bags. Camping may be a pricey choice, but it is budget-friendly. On the other hand, travel agencies do not offer camping services for the Everest base camp trek. Hence, it is necessary to cross-check beforehand.

Travel Insurance Requirements for Everest Base Camp Deluxe Trek

Travel insurance cannot be ignored at any cost while heading for 9 days of the Everest Base Camp Deluxe trek in Nepal. Our travelers should consider purchasing travel insurance that covers helicopter evacuation, particularly under Acute Mountain Sickness or any other reason at high elevations where other transportation routes are unavailable. Finally, proper research on insurance and its coverages should be done at the end of the study. Taking all your insurance documents and leaving a copy with the people you trust is advisable. Recall that your insurance must be powerful enough to pay for all your medical costs while giving you the appropriate level of protection.

Trekking Permits Required for Everest Base Camp Deluxe Trek

Trekkers must acquire two trekking permits while going on the Everest Base Camp Trek. They are:

  • Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit
  • Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Municipality Entry Permit

Sagarmatha National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site where Everest Base Camp is located. Trekkers must acquire the Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit.

To get an entry permit, international trekkers must pay NPR 3,000, Nepalese trekkers NPR 1,000, and Indian trekkers NPR 100. Children under ten years of age do not pay the entrance fee.

Additionally, each person's Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Municipality Entry Permit is NPR 2000. If your stay in this Everest Region lasts more than four weeks, the fee would be NPR 2500.

The other option is taking the Jiri route to Lukla, which requires an additional permit, the Gaurishankar Conservation Area Permit, which is available for NPR 2000 from the Nepal Tourism Board in Kathmandu.

Guides and Porters for Everest Base Camp Deluxe Trek

The guides and the porters are the strongest pillars that can make a trekking tour successful for you. Solo trekking is prohibited in Nepal, so you must hire a guide if you are looking for trips to distant trekking regions. The local guides and porters are the most adept people in the Everest region. They have all the skills needed for all operations, including weather patterns, trails, logistics, and safety regulations. Therefore, our staff will ensure that all parts of your journey will be completed entirely and flawlessly. Guide services are included in the trekking package.

Communication and Internet Facility

The Everest region has obstacles to staying online and connected. Although some hotels in Namche Bazaar provide internet access free of charge, it doesn’t mean you will always have a stable connection throughout the trip. Having your cellular device is a good choice, but the connections there are not always consistent.

Communication is vital to the Everest Base Camp Trek, so you should also have a plan B. Satellite phones are recommended but may be unavailable or too expensive for some travelers. Additionally, the connection with traditional communication networks is usually flaky because of the region's remoteness.

Buying a local SIM card upon arrival in Kathmandu will be a smart option if you depend on more consistent communication. At Tribhuvan International Airport, various vendors offer SIM cards from two network operators: Ncell and NTC. These cards, in turn, have to be filled out with KYC forms and copies of documents, and they offer affordable data and voice packs that are essential for trekking.

If you still need to buy a SIM card at the airport, you can visit the nearby network operator's office in Kathmandu. The Everest link is another option for connectivity, a broadband service tailored for hikers in the Everest region—data packs, for example, 10GB cost NPR. 1999 or NPR in 20GB. Certain items, such as 2999, can be bought. Reliable internet service makes Everest Link a provider of choice for global connectivity.
